Camões - Institute for Cooperation and Language, I. P (CICL)
Camões - Institute for Cooperation and Language, I. P., hereinafter referred to as Camões, is a public institution integrated in the indirect administration of the State, endowed with administrative and financial autonomy and its own assets, pursuing tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) under the supervision and guardianship of the respective minister.
The task of Camões is to propose and implement the policy of Portuguese cooperation and coordinate the cooperation activities undertaken by other public entities involved in implementing that policy, and also propose and implement educational policy and dissemination of the Portuguese language and culture abroad ensure the presence of Portuguese representatives in foreign universities and manage the network of Portuguese teaching abroad.
Camões in Turkey
The representation of Camões works in Ankara. Under the Protocol of Cooperation between Camões and Ankara University, renovated in 2012, the Faculty of Language, History and Geography of Ankara University, includes the teaching of Portuguese language and culture in the curriculum of the undergraduate students of Spanish studies and also offers this option to other students of the Department of Western Languages of the University.
The course of Portuguese, beginners and intermediate levels, counts in recent years with a number of around 70 students, an increase of about 50% over the numbers of five years ago.
The interest in the Portuguese language and culture has been stimulated by various cultural activities held within the University and outside of its walls.
In the last two years cultural activities were held in 16 Turkish cities, from north to south, east to west. These events, the result of partnerships with local institutions, with diplomatic representations of countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), with the European Union Delegation to Turkey, and within the framework of the local cluster of the European Union National Institutes of Culture ( EUNIC), Institution were the Representative of Camões holds the post of Vice President, have widely disseminated Portuguese language and culture in Turkey.
